Born in Loveland, Colorado, December 1, 1913.
1935-39 Student at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center under George Biddle, Henry Varnum Poor and Boardman Robinson
1939 MA from Colorado College
1937-1941 Commissioned by the Section of Fine Arts of the Department of the United States Treasury to do murals for five post offices in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado
Yaddo Fellowship, 1959-1961.
1945 Taught at Vesper George School of Art, Boston, Massachusetts
1946-47 Taught at Salem College, Winston-Salem, North Carolina
1948 Directed the Kendall Foundation, Hot Springs, Virginia
1954-55 Awarded commission to paint three murals for Rotunda of Nebraska State Capitol
1948- 79 Professor of Art in the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York
1959, 1963 & 1979 Received fellowships to Yaddo in Saratoga
Springs, New York
1994 Elected member of the National Academy of Design
